Norbert Zongo case: New cassation appeal filed in Burkina Faso
A new legal development has emerged in the Norbert Zongo case in Burkina Faso. Following a decision by the Ouagadougou Court of Appeal on July 30, 2026, which confirmed an earlier order to send Wanga Christophe Combasséré, Banagoulo Yaro, and Paul François Compaoré to trial, a new appeal has been filed.
On July 31, 2026, Me Paul Kéré, counsel for Mr. Yaro, filed an appeal in cassation against the court's ruling. This move introduces a new judicial stage before the case can proceed to a trial court. The suspects face charges including murder, aggravated destruction of property, complicity in murder, and incitement to murder.
The Prosecutor General has issued a statement to reassure the public, asserting that the Burkinabè justice system is working toward a diligent resolution of the case in accordance with legal principles and rules.
