Norberto Araujo quits as Aucas coach following 3-1 loss

Aucas suffered a 3‑1 defeat to Orense in Machala on 23 July 2026. In the post‑match press conference head coach Norberto Araujo announced that it was his final game with the club, saying, “Hoy fue mi último partido en Aucas” and expressing gratitude to the team. Araujo cited unmet requests for reinforcements and the club’s financial difficulties as reasons for his departure.

During his 21‑match tenure Araujo guided Aucas to third place in Ecuador’s LigaPro, recording 10 wins, five draws and six losses and earning 35 points. The resignation leaves the club urgent to appoint a new manager to maintain its position in the race for international tournament qualification.
