Norcia to get new Enel electric substation in historic centre

Lightning strikes during a yellow‑alert storm damaged a low‑voltage line near Norcia’s historic centre, causing temporary power outages. E‑Distribuzione, the Enel subsidiary that operates the medium‑ and low‑voltage grid, promptly replaced the damaged components and restored service.

The company has now completed the design and approval phase for a permanent, custom‑built electric substation. Because of the area’s architectural and landscape constraints, the new cabin will feature a sloped roof and brick cladding to satisfy heritage‑preservation rules, and will house two modern transformers that will increase capacity and reliability for the city segment it serves. Site inspections and preparatory works are finished, and construction is scheduled to begin in September, with the facility expected to be operational by next year. The project aims to provide a stable, higher‑quality electricity supply to Norcia’s historic centre.
