Nord and Pas-de-Calais hit record August temperatures

The Nord and Pas-de-Calais regions of France experienced record-breaking heat on Friday, August 14, with temperatures reaching 38.9°C in Douai. This mark sets a new absolute record for the month of August in these departments, surpassing the previous record of 38.2°C set during the 2003 heatwave. Other significant readings included 38.5°C in Lille-Lesquin and 38.3°C in Arras.

Following this extreme heat, temperatures are expected to decrease. Forecasts indicate a gradual cooling trend with daytime highs reaching approximately 27°C in inland areas. While the beginning of the week will remain relatively mild with some wind gusts up to 45 km/h, rain and stormy showers are predicted to arrive by Thursday, August 20, and continue through the following weekend.
