Norddjurs Municipality school closures threaten local businesses
Proposed school closures in Norddjurs Municipality are causing concern among local businesses. The potential closure of Rougsøskolen in Ørsted has led the masonry firm Kusk and Thomsen to warn that it may become difficult to recruit local craftsmen and maintain daily operations. The company, which employs between 25 and 30 people, fears that a less attractive residential area will force them to relocate.
Similarly, the steel producer L-tek in Nørager has expressed concerns regarding the possible closure of Langhøjskolen in Vivild. Director Lars Lund Nielsen noted that approximately two-thirds of the company's 90 employees live within a 12-15 kilometer radius, and losing local schools could hinder recruitment. While the municipality aims to consolidate students into larger schools to improve education, local businesses argue the move threatens the economic viability of the region.
