Nordic energy prices rise amid fuel tax concerns in Sweden
Nordic electricity prices have risen due to increased gas prices, low European gas reserves, and ongoing issues with hydropower and nuclear power availability. While the hydropower situation in the Nordic region has improved from a deficit of 37 TWh to approximately 13 TWh, it remains below normal levels. Nuclear power stability is also a factor, as periodic disruptions have impacted production despite the return of the Oskarshamn 3 reactor to service.
In Sweden, rising fuel costs are also a significant concern. A proposal by the Sweden Democrats to prevent a sharp increase in fuel prices was voted down in the Riksdag's Finance Committee. This decision is expected to impact household finances, particularly for commuters and rural residents, as higher fuel prices can also drive up the cost of goods and services through increased transport expenses.
