Nordic nations increase civil defense and emergency preparedness
Nordic countries are demonstrating high levels of civil defense preparedness in response to the security situation in Europe. In Sweden, residents in Grums recently conducted overnight drills in emergency shelters to identify logistical shortcomings, such as noise, temperature, and lack of running water or sanitation. Sweden maintains approximately 64,000 shelters capable of accommodating 7 million people.
Other Nordic nations are also taking proactive measures. Denmark and Norway have conducted various preparedness exercises, including training for mass casualty events. Finland has announced plans to invest 400 million euros by 2030 to construct underground hospitals, citing lessons learned from the conflict in Ukraine.
