Nordic survey reveals public resistance to AI-generated music

The Nordic Digital Music Survey 2026, conducted by YouGov for TONO, Koda, and Teosto, reveals significant public skepticism regarding AI-generated music across Norway, Denmark, Sweden, and Finland.

In Norway, 22 percent of the population—approximately 1.2 million people—expressed a willingness to pay more for streaming services that do not offer AI-generated music. Additionally, 74 percent of Norwegians believe AI music should be filterable from recommendations and playlists, while 75 percent believe songwriters should have the right to decide if their work is used as training data for AI.

In Denmark, the survey highlights a shift toward free streaming, with 59 percent of daily music streaming time occurring on free services. Regarding artificial intelligence, 75 percent of Danes believe songwriters and composers should be compensated when their music is used by AI services, and 66 percent believe politicians should ensure AI does not undermine the economic stability of music creators.
