Nordland County Council demands tax and fee relief
The Nordland County Council has passed a motion requesting the Norwegian state to implement significant tax and fee reductions for residents and businesses. A majority consisting of the Progress Party (FrP), Conservative Party (Høyre), Centre Party (Senterpartiet), Industry and Business Party (Industri- og næringspartiet), and Christian Democratic Party (Kristelig Folkeparti) supported the proposal.
The council stated that high inflation, rising interest rates, and fuel prices are placing severe economic pressure on both households and companies. They emphasized that these challenges disproportionately affect rural districts due to long distances and fewer alternatives.
The council criticized the government's proposed income tax cuts as ‘small, cosmetic adjustments’ that are offset by price increases and interest costs. They are calling for a tax and fee policy that provides real relief and compensates for the higher costs associated with living and operating businesses in remote areas.
