Nordöstra Skåne Bio‑Refinery Proposal Sparks Regional Debate

Center Party regional representative Qalinle Dayib argues that Nordöstra Skåne should not try to copy Malmö or Lund but instead explore a bio‑refinery that would turn agricultural, forest and food‑industry residues into fuels, materials and other products. The party’s regional manifesto calls for a feasibility study to assess the potential of such a plant, highlighting the area’s abundant raw material supply and existing transport and education infrastructure.

Dayib stresses that a bio‑refinery could create green jobs, provide new income for farmers and businesses, and reduce Sweden’s dependence on imported energy and raw materials. The proposal points to Kristianstad and Hässleholm as key locations for the development, but notes that further analysis is needed on raw‑material availability, market demand, financing and environmental impact before any construction can proceed.
