Nordwaerme launches subsidized floor‑cooling retrofits in Germany

German startup Nordwaerme is marketing a retrofit that converts existing floor‑heating systems into year‑round cooling units. By reversing the flow of a modern heat‑pump, cold water circulates through floor‑mounted pipes, drawing heat from the room without the noise, drafts or high electricity use of conventional air‑conditioners. The company says the installation takes two to three weeks and costs between €3,000 and €5,000 for the piping, plus labour for floor‑cover replacement. State subsidies cover up to 20 % of single‑measure costs and more than 50 % when the upgrade is part of a broader energy‑modernisation that includes a new heat‑pump. Nordwaerme handles the precise channel‑cutting in the slab and can connect owners to local specialists for additional work. The solution promises efficient heating in winter and gentle, silent cooling in summer, improving a building’s energy balance while avoiding the environmental impact of traditional air‑conditioning.
