N. O. R. E. sued for alleged 1999 sexual assault by Carmen Bryan

Rapper N. O. R. E., legally known as Victor Santiago Jr., is facing a civil lawsuit filed by Carmen Bryan, a former music industry executive and mother of rapper Nas’ daughter. The 20-page complaint, filed in New York, alleges that Santiago sexually assaulted Bryan at a Manhattan nightclub in May 1999 while he was promoting his album ‘Melvin Flynt Da Hustler.’

According to the lawsuit, Santiago approached Bryan while visibly intoxicated and committed an act of nonconsensual digital penetration. The complaint states that Bryan repeatedly pleaded for him to stop and that other patrons eventually had to intervene to pull him away. Bryan alleges that Santiago followed her outside the club and later apologized after recognizing her identity.

Bryan, who worked in finance for Rush Management at the time, stated that she remained silent for decades due to the culture of the music industry. She noted that the 2023 legal actions involving Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs served as a catalyst for her to seek justice. The lawsuit, brought under New York City’s Victims of Gender-Motivated Violence Protection Act, seeks compensatory damages as well as damages for emotional distress and mental anguish.

Santiago has reportedly denied knowing Bryan when she attempted to reach a private settlement in March. Attorneys for Bryan stated the lawsuit aims to demand accountability and challenge a culture of entitlement toward women.
