Noreen Niazi granted one‑week protective bail in Pakistan PECA case

A case was registered against Noreen Niazi, sister of Pakistan Tehreek‑e‑Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan, under the Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act (PECA) 2016 and the Pakistan Penal Code. The FIR alleges she made false and baseless allegations against state institutions, including the armed forces, during a viral podcast interview, and used social media to spread provocative and defamatory content. The National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) filed the case under Sections 20 and 26‑A of PECA and Sections 505 and 506 of the Penal Code.

The Lahore High Court subsequently granted Noreen Niazi a one‑week protective bail, restraining authorities from arresting her during that period and directing her to seek further legal relief within a week. The court’s order follows her alleged remarks linking the Pakistan Army’s “Marka‑e‑Haq” operation to Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, suggesting Israeli influence in regional affairs, and claiming Pakistan might recognize Israel under the Abraham Accords. The bail provides temporary relief while the investigation proceeds.
