Norfolk County Council trials recycled tyre material for pothole repairs

Norfolk County Council is trialling a new pothole repair method called Roadmender, which utilizes recycled tyres to fix road defects. The material, developed by Sheffield-based Billian UK, transforms old tyres into an industrial-strength adhesive that is applied directly to cracks and potholes.

Unlike traditional methods, this process does not require breaking out the existing road surface. Officials hope the preventative application of the material can treat cracks before they evolve into larger potholes, potentially extending the lifespan of road surfaces and reducing long-term maintenance costs and disruption.
