Norfolk hospital rebuilds delayed until 2033
The opening of two new hospitals in Norfolk has been delayed until 2033. The replacement for the James Paget University Hospital in Gorleston, originally expected to treat patients in 2032, has been pushed back to ensure it adheres to the government’s ‘Hospital 2.0’ model, which utilizes modular buildings designed for easy capacity expansion.
Similarly, the replacement for the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in King's Lynn has also been rescheduled for a 2033 opening. Jo Segasby, deputy chief executive of the Norfolk and Waveney University Hospitals Group, stated that the change reflects necessary coordination with the National New Hospital Programme.
Rupert Lowe, the Restore Britain MP for Great Yarmouth, criticized the delay, calling it ‘unacceptable’ and stating that residents are facing ‘brutal waits for substandard care.’ Lowe indicated he would refer the matter to the health secretary to seek guarantees for the Great Yarmouth constituency.
