Norfolk Southern sees mixed analyst price targets amid merger progress

Norfolk Southern is seeing varied adjustments to its stock price targets from financial analysts. Susquehanna recently reduced its price objective for the railroad operator from $386.00 to $350.00, maintaining a “neutral” rating. Conversely, Evercore raised its target for the company from $358.00 to $360.00.

Financial performance for the company has shown growth, with second-quarter revenue reaching $3.46 billion, a 12.50 percent increase year-over-year. Earnings per share also rose from $3.29 to $3.52, exceeding market expectations.

Regarding corporate strategy, Norfolk Southern is pursuing a planned combination with Union Pacific. While the Surface Transportation Board recently rejected motions to dismiss merger opposition without review, the transaction remains subject to further regulatory scrutiny and approval. The deal is expected to close in the second half of 2027.
