Norges Bank holds interest rate steady at 4.25 percent

Norges Bank has decided to keep the policy interest rate unchanged at 4.25 percent. The decision aligns with economist expectations following a period where price growth fell more than previously anticipated.

Central Bank Governor Ida Wolden Bache noted that while the decline in price growth is positive, inflation remains too high to conclude that future outlooks have significantly changed. Consequently, the bank stated that further rate hikes may still be necessary.

Economists observed that the bank's language regarding future hikes was somewhat softer than in previous meetings. While market expectations had previously factored in potential increases, the recent lower-than-expected inflation data has introduced uncertainty regarding the timing of future adjustments.
