Norges Bank to announce interest rate decision during Arendalsuka
Norges Bank is expected to announce its interest rate decision during the Arendalsuka event. The central bank will decide whether to maintain the policy rate at 4.25% or increase it to 4.5%.
The decision hinges significantly on upcoming inflation data from Statistics Norway (SSB). Following a surprising drop in inflation to 2.7% in June, economists are closely monitoring July figures. Current expectations suggest total inflation may land at 2.8% with core inflation slightly above 2.9%.
Kjersti Haugland, chief economist at DNB Carnegie, noted that if inflation remains stable as expected, the rate will likely stay unchanged. However, a sharp rebound above 3% would strengthen the argument for a rate hike. The decision follows a period of volatility where consumer electronics sales and promotional campaigns influenced previous figures.
