Norges Fiskarlag meets with Norwegian Fisheries Minister

Representatives from Norges Fiskarlag met with the Norwegian Minister of Fisheries and Ocean Policy in Oslo to discuss several critical political and industry issues.

A primary focus of the meeting was the recommendation to abolish the CO2 tax for the fishing fleet. Norges Fiskarlag leaders argued that the tax undermines value creation, competitive conditions, and coastal jobs. They urged the government to act ahead of parliamentary discussions, noting that there is existing support in the Storting for removing the tax in both coastal and offshore waters.

Other topics discussed included international market access, future fisheries agreements, marine protection, and the environmental challenges facing the Oslofjord. The organization also raised concerns regarding the saithe stock and the necessity for stable, predictable framework conditions for the fishing industry.
