Norges Råfisklag reports record turnover in youth fishing program
The youth fishing program in northern Norway has reached record levels in both participation and turnover. According to a summary from Norges Råfisklag, 779 young people participated in the program between June 15 and August 14.
These participants delivered over 371 tons of wild-caught fish and shellfish, generating a total value of more than 18 million NOK. The program, which targets youth aged 12 to 25, serves as a recruitment tool for the fishing industry by providing summer employment along the coast.
The most active age group was 16–19 years old in terms of value, while the 11–15 age group delivered the largest volume. Participants utilized various methods, including handlines, nets, and pots, across 30 different species.
