norisbank launches European payment app Wero and announces August service outage

The German direct bank norisbank has introduced the Wero app, a European‑wide digital payment solution operated by the European Payments Initiative (EPI). The app enables real‑time transfers to family and friends and allows payments in participating online shops without requiring an IBAN or BIC. Norisbank’s chairman Maik Wennrich said the service expands the bank’s digital offering after earlier roll‑outs with Deutsche Bank and Postbank. Future updates are planned for recurring payments, point‑of‑sale checkout and additional value‑added features.

Separately, norisbank has scheduled maintenance for its online banking platform, mobile app and voice‑assistant on 9 August 2026. The outage will last about four hours and 45 minutes (approximately 00:15‑05:00 UTC), during which transfers, real‑time payments and app access will be unavailable. Debit‑card functions will be limited, while credit‑card transactions will continue. A 24‑hour hotline is provided for lost or stolen cards.
