Norma Cossetto: Commemorations held for Istrian victim
Commemorations are being held to honor Norma Cossetto, an Istrian student killed 83 years ago during the period of the foibe massacres. In Trieste, a solemn ceremony will include the laying of wreaths at her dedicated monument, involving FederEsuli, various associations, and civil, religious, and military authorities.
In San Martino al Cimino, the “Una Rosa per Norma Cossetto” event was organized by the Comitato 10 Febbraio. Participants called for truth and justice regarding the history of Cossetto and thousands of others who fell victim to the massacres. Valentina Rinaldi, coordinator of the event, emphasized that the truth must be told after years of silence.
Author Valentina Motta has documented the experiences of women on the eastern border through her works, “Donne, eroine, martiri delle foibe” and “1948 Il terrore. Prigioniere sotto Tito.” Her research highlights the resilience of women who faced exile, imprisonment, and violence, seeking to preserve a history that was often suppressed or erased.
