Norma Otilia Hernández resigns from Morena

Norma Otilia Hernández Martínez, the former mayor of Chilpancingo, has officially resigned from the Morena party. The resignation was formalized on Monday after she submitted her notice to the party's National Executive Committee.

In her resignation letter, Hernández Martínez cited her exclusion from internal processes required to compete for candidacies in the June 2027 elections. While she stated she remains a leftist and ‘obradorista’, she indicated that her future within Morena had reached an end.

The departure follows a period of internal conflict and legal battles within the party. In July 2023, Hernández Martínez faced scrutiny following the release of media showing her with Celso Ortega Jiménez, an alleged leader of the Los Ardillos criminal group. This incident previously impacted her aspirations for a Senate seat and led to calls from party members to suspend her political rights.

Sources from the Party of the Democratic Revolution (PRD) suggest she may be a candidate for the Chilpancingo Mayoralty in the upcoming elections. She is expected to hold a press conference to detail her resignation and potential future political path.
