Norman C. Sauce III appointed DeKalb County school superintendent

The DeKalb County Board of Education voted 4-1 on Monday to appoint Dr. Norman C. Sauce III as the permanent superintendent of the DeKalb County School District (DCSD). Sauce, who has 26 years of experience in public education, previously served as the district’s interim superintendent and as the Chief of Student Services.

Sauce’s permanent appointment follows the departure of former superintendent Devon Horton, who was indicted on federal kickback charges related to his previous role in Illinois. Sauce’s career within the district includes roles as area superintendent for high schools, Region IV superintendent, and principal of Chamblee High School.

Board Chair Allyson Gevertz expressed support for the decision, noting Sauce’s commitment to students and educators. In a statement, Sauce expressed his intention to work collaboratively with the school community to build on the district’s strengths.
