Normandie Impressionniste Festival attracts 1.5 million visitors

The 2026 edition of the Normandie Impressionniste Festival has concluded, drawing an estimated 1.5 million visitors. Held over four months across 43 communes, the event featured 75 projects and 60 international and French artists to commemorate the centenary of Claude Monet’s death.

This edition focused entirely on contemporary art. Highlights included Ai Weiwei’s Lego depictions of water lilies at MuMa in Le Havre, which attracted over 100,000 visitors, and large-scale installations by Cai Guo-Qiang and Mika Ninagawa. The festival saw a shift in demographics, with international and national visitors accounting for 53% of total attendance. The contemporary format is scheduled to recur every four years, alternating with historical editions.
