Noroeste Paulista targets tourism and economic growth
Various initiatives and proposals are targeting the expansion of the tourism sector and economic development in the Noroeste Paulista region of Brazil.
In the Rio Crôa community, state deputy candidate Rila Freze has advocated for sustainable community-based tourism to support the more than 140 local families while preserving the environment. She emphasized the need for public policies to support local guides, boatmen, and small businesses.
Regarding regional planning, the Intermunicipal Tourism Consortium (Cotimarg) is projecting economic expansion through 2027. The consortium plans to launch the ‘Rota Sertão Paulista’ cycling route and various gastronomic festivals to boost local commerce and hospitality.
Economic strategies are also being shaped by upcoming tax reforms. Candidate Rodrigo Ortunho has proposed specific development studies to help the region adapt to the gradual replacement of the ICMS tax with the IBS, focusing on infrastructure and logistics to maintain competitiveness. Additionally, over R$ 285 million in investments, facilitated by former tourism secretary Roberto de Lucena, has been directed toward infrastructure and event structures to consolidate tourism as a driver of job creation in the region.
