Norovirus suspected in Oelde gastrointestinal infection cluster

Health authorities in the Warendorf district have identified Norovirus as the likely cause of a cluster of gastrointestinal infections in Oelde, Münsterland. More than 70 people reported symptoms such as vomiting and diarrhea after visiting a local kebab snack bar.

Investigations by the health department revealed the presence of the virus in several stool samples from those affected. However, testing of the food items sold at the establishment yielded unremarkable results, leading officials to rule out contaminated food as the source. Instead, authorities believe the infections were spread through direct or indirect person-to-person contact. Following a thorough cleaning and disinfection of the premises, the snack bar was permitted to continue operations.
