Norris Bridge closed following multi-vehicle crash

A multi-vehicle crash on the Robert O. Norris Jr. Memorial Bridge in Lancaster County, Virginia, caused a five-hour closure on Friday, September 4. The incident involved a Chevrolet City Express work van, a Peterbilt truck, a Ford F-250, and a Chevrolet Avalanche.

Preliminary investigations by the Virginia State Police indicate the Chevrolet van crossed the centerline and struck the Peterbilt truck before sideswiping the Ford and overturning. The driver of the van, Zachary Jones, was extricated and airlifted to a hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries. The driver of the Peterbilt, James Conley, sustained minor injuries.

The crash triggered a hazardous materials response, requiring involvement from the Virginia Department of Emergency Management and the Virginia Department of Environmental Quality. Cleanup operations continued until the bridge reopened at approximately 2:30 p.m.
