Norsul reduces CO2 emissions through maritime efficiency

Brazilian navigation and logistics company Norsul reports that it avoided approximately 13,000 tons of CO2 emissions between 2023 and 2025. This reduction was achieved by lowering the carbon intensity of its operations compared to 2022 levels.

The company utilized a combination of operational optimizations and new technologies, including speed adjustments, route planning, and improved fleet utilization. Technical interventions focused on reducing hull resistance to decrease fuel consumption.

Key technological implementations included the use of electrostatic technology to apply silicone-based anti-fouling coatings, a first for Latin America. Additionally, Norsul utilized a system developed by BioRen, a company within the Lorinvest group, which uses electromagnetic pulses to prevent marine organism buildup on ship hulls, even during long periods of inactivity.
