North Africa tourism hits record levels in Morocco and Egypt

Morocco welcomed a record 19.8 million international visitors in 2025, a 14 % rise from the previous year and surpassing its target of 17.5 million. Tourism contributed 7.3 % of GDP and provided 894,000 jobs, up 92,000 since 2022. France, Spain and Britain were the top source markets, together accounting for about 59 % of arrivals.

Egypt recorded 6.1 million tourists in the first four months of 2026, a 7 % increase year‑on‑year, with first‑quarter revenues of roughly US$5.1 billion. The country ended 2025 with about 19 million visitors, a 21 % jump over 2024, and aims for 21 million arrivals in 2026. The newly opened Grand Egyptian Museum near Giza draws about 15,000 visitors daily, fueling the tourism surge despite regional security concerns.
