North Alabama aerospace sector expands with new contract and Space Academy proposals
A Huntsville-based rocket manufacturer has secured a $6 million defense contract intended to expand the production of one of its missile propulsion systems.
As the U.S. Space Force prepares to relocate its headquarters to Redstone Arsenal, North Alabama is becoming a central hub for aerospace and defense. In light of this growth, there are calls to establish a Space Academy in Lawrence County, specifically in Courtland. Proponents suggest the area offers the necessary land, proximity to Huntsville, and existing infrastructure—including an airport and proximity to major firms like Lockheed Martin, Boeing, and United Launch Alliance—to support a long-term aerospace training ecosystem.
