North America faces severe storm threats and flooding risks

Severe weather threats are expanding across North America. In the United States, a 1,000-mile stretch from the Central Plains to Upstate New York is facing severe thunderstorms. The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration has issued a Level 2 out of 5 severe weather risk for parts of northeast Ohio, northwest Pennsylvania, and western New York. Heavy rain and wind gusts of up to 60 mph are anticipated, with flooding risks in the Ohio Valley and Mid-Atlantic due to tropical moisture.

In southern Ontario, a muggy air mass is increasing the risk of thunderstorms, heavy rain, and localized flooding. Atmospheric moisture levels are modeled between 40-60 mm, which poses a significant flooding threat.

Meanwhile, in Toronto, residents continue to deal with the aftermath of a previous massive storm. The City of Toronto reports receiving approximately 5,700 storm-related service requests, including roughly 3,000 requests regarding fallen trees. Some residents report safety concerns as they wait for debris to be cleared from streets and sidewalks.
