North American Companies Face Rising Payroll Risks from Global Hiring

A new report by Native Teams, titled “Global by Default, Financially Exposed,” reveals that cross‑border payroll is becoming a major financial risk for companies in the United States and Canada. The study, based on a survey of more than 500 senior finance leaders conducted by Censuswide, found that 97% say foreign‑exchange movements have altered their total payroll costs in the past year, and 77% consider their organizations exposed to payroll‑related financial risk.

Jack Thorogood, Founder and CEO of Native Teams, warned that “payroll has quietly become one of the most exposed parts of scaling up to the global market,” noting that when payroll spans multiple banking systems, currencies and compliance regimes it functions as a holistic part of a firm’s financial infrastructure rather than a simple HR process.
