Sirajudin Lasena named suspect in North Bolaang Mongondow corruption case
The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has named Sirajudin Lasena, the Regent of North Bolaang Mongondow, as a suspect following a sting operation. The operation, which took place across Jakarta, North Sulawesi, and Gorontalo, resulted in the arrest of 14 individuals, including government officials and private sector actors.
Investigators allege that Sirajudin engaged in extortion and bribery related to infrastructure projects, specifically road construction within the North Bolaang Mongondow Regency. The KPK suspects the Regent received approximately 11.53 billion IDR in illicit funds through various schemes since his term began. This included a suspected 10 percent fee demanded from the value of procurement projects.
During the operation, law enforcement seized hundreds of millions of rupiah in cash. Sirajudin is currently being detained for an initial 20-day period at the KPK detention center. He faces charges under the Anti-Corruption Law, which carries a maximum penalty of life imprisonment.
