North Carolina Grants $40 Million to Keep Wyndham Championship in PGA Tour Playoffs

The PGA Tour’s FedEx Cup Playoffs will admit the top 70 players after the Wyndham Championship, the season’s final regular‑season event. With the tournament’s purse at $8.2 million—well below the $20 million floor required for the Championship Series—its status for the 2028 two‑tier system is uncertain. North Carolina’s General Assembly has approved a $40 million investment to keep the Wyndham Championship in Greensboro’s top tier and meet the purse requirement. The existing title‑sponsor agreement with Wyndham Worldwide ends in 2026, and no replacement sponsor has yet been secured.

Several high‑profile golfers, including Brooks Koepka, Jason Day, and Keegan Bradley, are on the bubble for the playoffs and need strong finishes at Wyndham to maintain their FedEx Cup standing. The funding aims to secure the tournament’s future, preserve its field strength, and avoid the downgrade that could see top players skip the event.
