North Carolina communities host events for 9/11 25th anniversary

Various communities in North Carolina are hosting events to mark the 25th anniversary of the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks.

In Clayton, a remembrance ceremony will be held at Municipal Park on Friday, Sept. 11. The event includes an American flag procession by the Clayton Area Runners, an Honor Guard presentation, the National Anthem, and a moment of silence. Local leaders will offer remarks, and bells will be tolled to honor the victims. The town is also inviting residents to participate in the ‘Remembering 9/11: Share Your Story’ project to preserve personal recollections for future generations.

In Raleigh, the Tunnel to Towers Raleigh 9/11 Tower Climb is scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 12, at 150 Fayetteville Street. Participants will climb the equivalent of 110 stories to honor the 343 FDNY firefighters who died at the World Trade Center. The event is part of a national series by the Tunnel to Towers Foundation, which was established in memory of firefighter Stephen Siller. The foundation provides support to veterans, Gold Star families, and families of fallen first responders.
