North Carolina crash kills parents and 6-year-old daughter

A fatal multi-vehicle crash in Granville County, North Carolina, resulted in the deaths of a family of three early Saturday morning. The incident occurred around 4 a.m. on Interstate 85 when a Toyota Highlander struck the rear of a Providence Fire Department fire engine that was stopped in the roadway with its emergency lights activated. The fire engine was blocking the scene of a previous accident.

Following the initial impact with the fire engine, the SUV collided with an unoccupied pickup truck. The occupants of the Toyota Highlander, identified as Jason Nye, 31, and Christina Nye, 32, both of Charlotte, were killed at the scene along with their 6-year-old daughter. A 10-year-old boy from the vehicle was airlifted to Duke University Hospital in critical condition. The cause of the crash is currently under investigation by the State Highway Patrol.
