North Carolina culinary landmarks offer diverse dining experiences

North Carolina features a diverse array of long-standing culinary establishments that have become local and regional landmarks.

In Fayetteville, Sherefe has served Mediterranean fare since 2003, led by owner and chef Mustafa Somar. In Raleigh, Poole’s, originally a pie shop established in 1945, was revitalized in 2007 by chef Ashley Christensen to offer contemporary comfort food.

Other notable dining spots include Sunrise Biscuit Kitchen in Chapel Hill, known for its fried chicken biscuits and cinnamon rolls, and Christy’s Euro Pub in Greenville, an English-style pub operating since 2001. The state also hosts iconic doughnut shops, such as Britt’s Donut Shop in Carolina Beach and the original Krispy Kreme location in Winston-Salem.
