North Carolina families can still apply for SUN Bucks summer food benefit

The North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services (NCDHHS) reminded families that they can still apply for SUN Bucks, a summer food assistance program that provides $120 per eligible child to help purchase groceries during school breaks. Applications are accepted online until August 15, and eligibility requires the child’s school to participate in the National School Lunch Program or the Community Eligibility Provision, as well as meeting household income limits.

In Charlotte, a free‑food distribution event is scheduled for August 3 from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at the McCrorey YMCA. Organized by Nourish Up in partnership with Second Harvest Food Bank, the event offers fresh produce and pantry items without requiring identification or proof of income, aiming to reduce food insecurity in Mecklenburg County.
