UNC football faces recruiting ban ahead of ETSU home opener

The University of North Carolina football program faces ongoing administrative challenges ahead of its home opener against East Tennessee State. Due to a self-reported recruiting violation from the 2025 season, the Tar Heels are prohibited from hosting unofficial recruit visits this weekend. While the university is permitted to host official visits, the program has decided to focus those efforts on the remaining five home games of the season.

This recruiting restriction follows a period of significant turnover and investigation within the program. General Manager Michael Lombardi recently resigned following an investigation, and defensive coordinator Steve Belichick is reportedly under investigation while on medical leave. Head coach Bill Belichick has addressed the situation by emphasizing the program’s commitment to a high standard of conduct and corrective action through the NCAA process.
