Hurricane Isaias causes fatalities and billions in damage across the US

Hurricane Isaias has caused widespread destruction across the eastern United States, resulting in at least four deaths and an estimated $16-20 billion in economic losses. The storm made landfall near Ocean Isle Beach, North Carolina, as a Category 2 hurricane, bringing wind gusts as high as 117 mph to the Florida Panhandle.

In North Carolina, the storm's remnants triggered a series of tornadoes, with at least five confirmed touchdowns in the central region, including areas near Raleigh and Fayetteville. Heavy rainfall led to significant flooding and landslides, particularly in western North Carolina, where some areas received over 9 inches of rain.

On the West Coast, the remnants of Tropical Storm Rachel brought massive waves to Southern California, destroying a historic boardwalk in Long Beach and causing flooding on the Las Vegas Strip. The storm system also caused widespread power outages, affecting hundreds of thousands of customers across Florida, Alabama, and the Carolinas.
