North Carolina infrastructure: Road upgrades and bridge milestones

The North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT) is advancing several infrastructure projects across the state. In Perquimans County, NCDOT has announced a public meeting for August 27 to discuss proposed improvements to a 4.5-mile section of New Hope Road. The project aims to enhance safety and efficiency through lane widening, curve realignment, and intersection adjustments between Woodland Church Road and Woodville Road.

In a separate development, the bridge replacement project over the Watauga River on N.C. 105 is reaching a major milestone. Traffic is scheduled to shift onto the newly constructed span following overnight paving and barrier work. The project, which has been underway since early 2022, faced delays due to unexpected soil conditions requiring slope stabilization and the impact of Hurricane Helene.
