North Carolina Legislature Considers Ban on Legal THC-Infused Products

The North Carolina General Assembly is debating a bill that would prohibit the sale of THC‑infused edibles, drinks and other products that are currently legal under state law. The measure has cleared the Senate and now awaits action in the House, where Speaker Destin Hall has not yet scheduled a vote amid a split among Republican lawmakers.

Hundreds of demonstrators gathered at the Capitol to oppose the ban, citing the industry's economic impact – about 16,000 jobs and roughly $4 billion in annual revenue, according to producer Adrian Larrea. Opponents, including Craven County Sheriff Chip Hughes and Randolph County District Attorney Andy Gregson, argue the products pose a risk to children and should be removed.

Supporters of the industry propose age‑limit restrictions rather than an outright prohibition, while the bill's future remains uncertain as the House debate continues.
