North Carolina man converts $12,000 shed into legal tiny home
A 21-year-old resident of North Carolina named Stan has converted a $12,000 shed into a fully functional, legal tiny home to combat rising rent costs. The project, which utilized a structure already owned by his father on multi-generational family land, cost an additional $3,000 to $4,000 in materials, bringing the total investment to approximately $16,000.
To ensure legality, Stan and his father obtained necessary permits for roughly $500 and underwent inspections throughout the process. The tiny house includes essential utilities such as a 100-amp electrical panel and water access. To keep expenses low, the home features secondhand furniture and appliances, and Stan performed much of the finishing work himself. Following the conversion, his monthly living expenses have been reduced to approximately $262.
