Syracuse upsets North Carolina 31-30 in overtime
Syracuse secured a 31-30 overtime victory against North Carolina at Kenan Stadium on Saturday night, snapping an 11-game Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) losing streak. Entering the game as underdogs, the Orange overcame a 20-10 deficit in the third quarter to force overtime.
In the extra period, Syracuse quarterback Steve Angeli connected with Calvin Russell III for a four-yard touchdown on fourth down. The Orange then successfully converted a two-point attempt to seal the win. Russell, returning from an Achilles injury, finished with eight receptions for 86 yards.
North Carolina, led by head coach Bill Belichick, saw their two-game winning streak end. Despite a strong performance from quarterback Billy Edwards Jr., who threw for 271 yards and two touchdowns, the Tar Heels were unable to hold their lead in the final minutes of regulation. A missed extra point by Shay Barker following a late Syracuse touchdown kept the game tied at 23-23, sending it into overtime.
