North Carolina students and residents march to vote
In North Carolina, students and community members have engaged in organized marches to access polling stations following the removal of on-campus voting sites. In late 2025, the state election board removed several polling locations from local universities, including NC A&T, UNCG, Western Carolina University, and Elon University.
In response, students from NC A&T, Bennett College, and UNCG have marched miles to reach polling sites. Legal action was taken by university Democrats against the state election board, citing concerns that students without vehicles would have to walk along highways without sidewalks to vote.
Simultaneously, non-partisan initiatives like “Run or Walk to the Polls,” coordinated by Casa Azul de Wilson, have encouraged participation through community walks. These efforts coincided with a significant increase in early voting among Latino residents, with the number of voters using in-person or mail-in ballots nearly tripling compared to the same period in 2022.
