North Carolina woman rescues shark by removing hook

A woman in North Carolina successfully rescued a shark by removing a hook from its mouth at Cape Hatteras. The incident, which occurred on July 4, was captured on video by witness Olivia Talbot and gained widespread attention after being released in late September.

The shark had taken the family's bait, pulling the fishing line approximately 200 yards along the beach before the group managed to bring it ashore. To free the animal, the woman used her legs to pin the shark to the sand and employed pliers to remove the hook and metal wire entangled in its jaws.

Witnesses noted the urgency of the situation, as the woman aimed to minimize the time the shark spent out of the water to ensure its survival. Following the successful removal of the gear, the shark was released back into the ocean.
