North-Central State Enterprise - Gabrovo reports six forest fires

Between the beginning of 2026 and the end of August, six forest fires occurred within the territories managed by the North-Central State Enterprise - Gabrovo. The enterprise oversees state forest lands in the Gabrovo, Veliko Tarnovo, Ruse, Silistra, and Razgrad regions.

A total of 220 decares of forest land have been burned, consisting of 201 decares of deciduous, 17 decares of mixed, and 2 decares of coniferous forests. The largest area affected was in the Silistra State Forest Enterprise, which recorded 160 decares lost across two fires. Other affected areas include the Plachkovtsi State Forest Enterprise (50 decares), Byala (7 decares), Gabrovo (2 decares), and Seslav in Kubrat (1 decare).

Human negligence is cited as the cause for five of the six fires, while the cause of the remaining fire is unknown. Despite these incidents, there has been a significant decrease in fire frequency compared to 2025, when 33 fires affected over 1,800 decares. This decline is attributed to enhanced prevention measures, increased firefighting activities, and more favorable climatic conditions in 2026.
