North Coast NSW communities receive $1 million for environmental restoration

Three community projects on the NSW North Coast will receive over $1 million to restore and rehabilitate local habitats through the NSW Environmental Trust Environmental Restoration and Rehabilitation program.

The funding recipients include the Big Scrub Rainforest Conservancy, which was awarded $349,955 to restore endangered lowland subtropical rainforest communities near Byron Bay. The Goonengerry Landcare Group received $349,730 to extend restoration work on private properties in the Byron Shire to strengthen wildlife corridors. Tweed Landcare Inc was granted $350,000 to restore high conservation value bushland across the Tweed Coast to Border Ranges corridor.

These grants are part of a larger $4 million program across New South Wales designed to restore ecosystems, protect native species, and strengthen environmental resilience. The program attracted 86 applications, with 12 successful recipients selected to deliver outcomes over a three-to-five-year period.
