Golden retriever stolen from secure backyard on Vancouver Island
A four-year-old purebred golden retriever named Ginger was stolen from a secure backyard in North Cowichan on Vancouver Island. The dog, a trained support animal weighing approximately 70 pounds, was last seen on September 14 at around 7:15 p.m. in a seven-foot-tall fully enclosed yard with a latched gate.
Owner Julie Dann reported that a neighbor stopped hearing the dog's collar around 8:30 p.m. that evening. Evidence at the scene included a food dish that did not belong to Ginger, which had been slid under the gate. The theft is noted as at least the third dog stolen from that street in the last three years.
Ginger is described as being on the leaner side and has a medical condition causing hair loss around her tail and rear. She was wearing a pink collar with a North Cowichan dog tag at the time of the disappearance. The RCMP is investigating, and anyone with information is encouraged to contact them or arrange an anonymous transfer through local animal services or veterinarians.
